Amazing Period Dramas

Hello again friends. I don't think anyone is reading this but its fun to write. I have been away for a year now. I have no excuse except for the fact that I graduated from high school and started university. I have recently been watching period dramas again and wanted to make a list of my favourites, so without further ado!

1. Call the Midwife
This show! This shows is beautiful and happy and heart-renching and feel good. I can honestly say this is the only show I have sobbed while I watched it. It is the only fictional thing to ever make me sob, and those of you have seen it you know what time talking about (Season 7). That being said there is so much hope in this show and the music is gorgeous!

2. North & South (2004)
Ah N&S, such a classic. This miniseries is brooding and beautiful and real! I love this show for many reasons, the historical content, the music, the character relationships, Richard Armitage (how is this man so attractive?! every time he speaks I swoon). This show is wonderful and the last scene, no matter how unrealistic, is pure gold.

3. Downton Abbey
Downton Abbey, another classic that emotionally destroyed me. There was so much drama and so many things went wrong in this show but I loved it so much. The romances were spectacular and so were the costumes! This show is wonderful and you should definitely watch it!

4. Pride and Prejudice (2005)
I know, I have broken the cardinal rule, I prefer the 2005 P&P, and before you lop my head off let me defend my opinion. Firstly this one takes far less time to watch, the 6 part series does drag on a bit. The main reason I prefer this however is that I dislike Colin Firth's Darcy, he is like a brick wall, never showing any emotion in his face or words even in the end. No Darcy in the 2005 version will always be my Darcy. About the movie itself it is beautiful and I feel like it captures the spirit of the novel very well. The music is its star feature!

5. Cranford
Cranford! Can I say classic again? I think this is the period drama that truly got me on that train to hunt down all the others. I love this one, although there is a shocking amount of death. These women are funny and brave and I love this one.

6. Poldark (2015)
Poldark!!! This is my latest obsession, I just started it, Im on season 2. It is so good! I avoided this show for a long time because I saw the first couple episodes and found it really really dark but upon second watching it is incredible! I love it so much, but everything does go wrong and it is dramatic. It reminds me of Downton Abbey in that way. The scenery in this show is especially breathtaking!

7. Emma (2009)
Emma! The 2009 version will always be my Emma. I love how they did the story and Romala Garai was the perfect Emma. All around a perfect adaption of the novel.

8. Wives and Daughters
This show is a little ridiculous but very good none the less. I enjoy the play off of characters and Molly really is a great heroine. It is a good series, I recommend!

9. Belle (2013)
Belle! This one has everything going for it, a great romance, historically based, a relevant and POWERFUL message that needs to be heard. It is a satisfying movie of people standing up for the right things.

10. Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Phryne Fisher, this one is vastly different from every other show on this list. I'm not quite sure how it made it here but it is great. It is the only non-British show in this list. This show is much more adult than any of the other but there is nothing explicit. I love the mystery, and how strong and independent Phryne is. Her banter with Jack is also wonderful. Add a bunch of gorgeous 1920s outfits and you have this show.

11. Sense and Sensibility (2008)
Ah another of my favourites. I mean how can you not love this one? Dan Stevens, need I say more? I have loved him since Downton Abbey and I love his Edward, I find him far less awkward and embarrassing than Hugh Grant. This show is a beautiful one sonically also!

12,  The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
I have talked about this one before so I think I will just link that review if you want to hear my thoughts!

I hope you enjoyed my little run down on my favourite period dramas. There are a million more and this is not an ordered list but these are some of my favourites. I will try to post more soon!
